The new UP design is said to improve chip control in 300-seriesstainless steels, and provides a soft cutting action, loweringcutting forces. A large rake angle lessens cutting resistance, improving surfacefinish and extending tool life. The design also preventsdepth-of-cut notching, which is a common insert failure.
